BEAN
  Duke is a superior variety designed for the mid winter planting slot in South Florida .  Its large bush provides a strong, robust plant producing high yield.  Duke produces smooth, straight, pods with a desirable green color comparable to Dusky.  With Dusky planted fall and spring, and Duke in the mid winter slot, South Florida growers have a superior set of high yielding bean varieties to cover the entire season.

SQUASH
Amatista is a hybrid grey zucchini with intermediate resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus and powdery mildew. This grey zucchini features a plant that is very upright, allowing for easier harvesting. Its fruit have a slightly darker stem that contrasts nicely with the classic grey fruit color.

Envy features glossy, cylindrical fruit and has shown wide adaptability for several Eastern growing areas where slightly darker zucchini are desirable. In trials, it has produced upright, open, nearly spineless plants with high yield potential. The variety has also shown adequate length plus more uniform fruit color and a more vigorous plant than comparable varieties. The excellent quality fruit are of the “easy-pick” type, meaning they are easily twisted off the plant with the fruit and peduncle intact. Envy has intermediate resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus and powdery mildew.

Equinox is a dark green zucchini with intermediate resistance to powdery mildew. This high quality hybrid tends to have exceptionally attractive, dark green glossy fruit borne on a nearly spineless, open, upright plant. In addition to the “easy-picking” peduncle, Equinox has been easy to harvest with minimal to no fruit damage. This high quality hybrid is an excellent addition to any dark green zucchini growing program and, with its disease package, will complement Noche, Contender, and Raven.

Gold Star offers an improved disease package with intermediate resistance to cucumber mosaic virus and powdery mildew. In trials, this yellow semi-crookneck squash produced an extremely vigorous plant with outstanding fruit smoothness and quality even under rough field conditions. The plant’s reduced spine and the fruit’s strong neck mean fruit is less likely to be damaged during harvest. Compared to similar varieties, Gold Star has maintained a highly consistent pattern of adaptability and a demonstrated capacity for maintaining a crook and uniform fruit color through the last harvest of a planting. Gold Star can provide higher packouts of fancy grade fruit throughout the season.

SWEET CORN
Garrison (formerly GSS3186) features a comprehensive disease package for the Southeast US shipper market. This sweet corn offers strong husk protection, a uniform shipping ear, and excellent tip fill for the Fresh market. Growers looking for a high yielding variety with a strong plant, straight rowing, and a wide area of adaptation should choose Garrison. Its strong disease package includes high resistance to most strains of rust, northern corn leaf blight, and maize dwarf mosaic virus as well as intermediate resistance to Stewart's wilt and Southern corn leaf blight.

TOMATO
Redline (formerly RFT 4971) features a disease package ideal for growers in the Southeast US contending with TSWV and Fusarium 3 disease pressure. Targeting mainly Spring plantings, but also working well in the Fall, this determinate beef tomato provides excellent performance in a wider range of planting environments than most other commercial varieties. Redline is especially well-suited for Eastern US stake culture. This vigorous plant has shown best results with a light to medium pruning in our pruning trials. It has smooth shoulders, a very small blossom end scar, and excellent leaf coverage to help protect fruit from sunburn.

Scout, developed for the early to mid California season, offers growers a vigorous, widely adapted plant with the ability to set fruit under cooler temperatures. This determinate tomato produces firm fruit that has a nice globe shape and a deep red color. It offers early season maturity in addition to high quality. Scout makes an excellent choice for the Fresh Cut industry.

Wolverine is a main season mature green tomato that has shown outstanding performance in the California market and can be an excellent choice for Fresh Cut and processing. In trials, this tomato has produced excellent globe fruit that are firm and red. Wolverine’s comprehensive disease package includes high resistance to fusarium wilt race 1 and 2, as well as demonstrated heat set ability, making this variety an excellent choice for a well-rounded planting program.

Tyto 20, formerly 242220, is an indeterminate beef tomato that has a strong plant with medium internodes. The combination of TYLCV and F3 resistance makes it an ideal variety for open field production in areas plagued by these diseases. Tyto 20 has shown excellent adaptation in the mid to late planting slots in Sinaloa, producing high yields of export quality fruit. The large to extra large fruit size combined with the flattened globe shape make for a high potential return on a growers investment.

 

Tyto 12, formerly 242212, offers the added value of intermediate resistance to tomato yellow leaf curl and high resistance to fusarium wilt. This passive greenhouse/open field indeterminate beef tomato has shown exceptional performance in the Northwest and Sinaloa regions of Mexico . Tyto 12 has shown better adaptation to the earlier plantings where greywall can become a problem.

Tyto 28, formerly 242228, offers the added value of intermediate resistance to tomato yellow leaf curl and high resistance to fusarium wilt. This indeterminate beef tomato for the passive greenhouse/open field in the Northwest region of Mexico has shown better adaptation to the main season segments where higher temperatures and light conditions exist. This very productive variety features the critical disease resistances protection for growers in the open field in Sinaloa.

Valleycat (formerly RFT0066) is a mature green tomato developed for California growing regions. This main season variety has demonstrated yields of large to very large fruit. It also offers good color development under Ethylene gas, an internal structure preferred by Fresh Cut operators, and firmness that allows for extended shipping. It features a comprehensive disease package that includes high resistance to root knot nematode.

WATERMELON

Allsweet-Type Watermelon (Stellar Quality Allsweet)

Estrella (formerly RWM 8172) is a blocky-shaped Allsweet-type hybrid watermelon with excellent flavor and premium eating quality. The plant is typically vigorous with large leaves and uniform fruit with small seeds and smaller seed pockets. In Mexico , Estrella has performed its best in fall season plantings (hot to cold weather). Estrella can also be planted in the winter season, particularly with growers who maintain good crop management and require early maturing fruit.

Escarlett is an Allsweet-type hybrid with a high yield potential and excellent flavor and flesh quality. This variety typically produces large watermelons with an elongated shape. The flesh is firm with small seeds and small seed pockets. In trials, Escarlett has shown improved yields compared to current “standard” varieties and has performed exceptionally well in Texas and Mexico.

TRI-X Brand Triple Threat (formerly RWT 8175) features excellent fruit set and uniformity. This seedless watermelon is a smaller version of Tri-X® Brand Palomar, with globe-shaped fruit weighing about 13 to 16 pounds. It also features an improved red flesh color and reduced white seed coats. In trials, this mid-season variety has produced a strong and stable vine and has grown well in all seedless watermelon growing seasons and conditions. Triple Threat’s firm flesh offers longer shelf life, making it an excellent choice for long distance shipping and high quality special markets. Growers also benefit from a disease package with intermediate resistance to anthracnose and fusarium wilt.
